Community Radio

Community Radio

Community Radio is a powerful and versatile tool for building communities. Although it has been promoted by the UN worldwide for over half a century, in India, it is only in the last decade that the airwaves have been opened to the public, thanks to a landmark Supreme Court judgement. Even so, growth in this important medium has been slow, and even among NGOs engaged in community building, it remains largely unknown.

The TUNING INTO DIVERSITY 2 workshop is aimed at civil society organisations in western India, to help them understand the legal, technical, financial and media issues involved and to form an idea of the skills required of a team when starting a community radio station.

The workshop is intended for NGO workers and other activists involved in community media or in the process of thinking about, starting or already running a community radio station. The faculty will be expert practitioners in the field from various parts of India.

Participants intending apply the knowledge to Community Radio work are invited to register on line by clicking the link below. Please tell us about yourself and your organisation's interest in this area. Seats are limited, so there will be a selection process and please do not be disappointed if your application is not confirmed. Once the places are filled, we will close the registrations.

The workshop will begin at 9 am on Wednesday, 23rd June and end at 2 pm on 25th June. It will be held at International Centre Goa, Dona Paula, Goa. You are advised to arrive on 22 June.
