This film by Ankita Tambe tells the story of the women of Triratna Prerna Mandal, a self-help group formed by women domestic workers in Mumbai. The collective has grown from a small savings group to an entrepreneurial activity that has bid for and won 39 tenders to supply food supplements to pre-school children in the Khar-Santa Cruz area of Mumbai.
Vacha is a resource organisation of Mumbai, which runs several centres for girls and women in the bastis (slums) of Santa Cruz and adjacent areas. In their 'Bole Kishori' (Girls speak out) project, they create opportunities for girls to express themselves through writing, drawing, photography, theatre and slideshow presentations, encouraging them to read and discuss issues critically.
This film came out of a training in video-making for the young women who facilitate this activity in local communities. The facilitators will now train the girls to tell their own stories through the medium of video. The training was designed and conducted by Comet Media Foundation.
