Learning Ladder

books, toys, games, educational aids and more....

developing and constructing knowledge................out of one's own experience................in a manner which is joyful and exciting

Children's books at Learning Ladder

Children have a deep urge within to relate to the world around them. They also have the ability to weave this interaction into their own experience.

From our earliest days, we carry an awareness of knowledge from the outer world, which is constantly integrated and contextualised with previous experiences. This has to be acknowledged and respected by adults, so the child develops strong foundations based on experience. Such a child is confident and prepared when the time comes to go to school. The child's ongoing learning process then, should correspond with her or his inner experiences and curiosities.

With this in view, the Learning Ladder offers books, that are alive, interactive and full of situations familiar to growing up children today, as well as classics which have stood the test of time.Through these, children are subtly introduced into developing their own individual identities. At the same time, they are sensitised into acknowledging and caring for the people, animals and the environment around them.

Books for young adults

In an increasingly globalised world, transnational media are hijacking the imaginations of young adults, transporting their self-image to imagined exotic worlds. In the process, they are cut off from their immediate surroundings and concerns.

With this in view, Learning Ladder offers books for young adults that make them aware of the reality of life and living in India. In as much as these books orient the youth to pursue personal excellence, they also encourage them to become sensitive, concerned for others and responsible towards the world.

Toys at Learning Ladder

Children around us us seem to be particularly impacted by advertising media. This influence is so pronounced at times that children become insecure, relentless in their pursuit of brand names and latest models. This pre-occupation may cause them to become alienated from their immediate circumstances.

With this in view, the Learning Ladder offers toys that make the child aware of and sensitive to the material world in which she or he moves. The toys we stock are mainly made from organic materials: wood, lacquer, bamboo and cotton fabric. They provide an opportunity for the child to be intrigued by the environment and also the freedom to interact with it. Buying such toys provides employment to rural craftspersons, a value children appreciate. In addition to cultural relevance, these toys have various pedagogical strengths:

  • physical and scientific principles are grasped intuitively
  • mathematical and strategy-making skill are encouraged
  • spatial skills and eye-hand coordination are strengthened
  • some toys encourage fantasy play and story-telling abilities

Educational aids at Learning Ladder

Certain concepts in mathematics and science are integrated into one's understanding when they are personally experienced and one can experiment with them. The educational aids offered at the Learning Ladder demand such experimentation from the players. They also set in motion independent inquiry that dynamically personalises the process of understanding.

Resource books for teachers and parents at Learning Ladder

For those concerned with enhancing the conduct of education and desirous of equipping children with the capacity to think for themselves, the resource books at Learning Ladder offer insights into a vast range of topics. Integrating fresh as well as time-tested ideas these can make teaching and learning a creative, interesting and satisfying endeavour for both adults and children.

Tell us what you think we could add to the collection

The books and toys that we offer have been selected by us over the years with the help of friends who drew our attention to these resources. We are always open to new ideas, so do get in touch if you know of any resources that we could develop further or include in our collection.
